Two others also were drafted from the area, UTRGV's Anthony Gomez and former Sharyland High standout Luis Treviño.

The Washington Nationals selected UTRGV senior second baseman Gomez in the 33rd round with the 1,023rd pick of the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft on Wednesday, the third day of the draft.

Gomez, a Florida native, is the 37th UTRGV player (including the university’s time as UTPA) drafted in program history and the sixth in the last eight years.
