A few weeks ago (during the Ferguson crisis) Secretary of the Treasury Lew gave testimony before Congress requesting that Social Security money be siphoned off to keep the disabilities fund solvent. According to him the Disabilities Trust Fund will be broke by 2016 because of a 20% increase in disabled people since Obama took office. Currently the worker and employer each contribute 6.3% of workers’ salaries to Social Security each year.
