Ben Jones is the actor who played Cooter in the 1979-85 action/comedy television series “The Dukes of Hazzard. When the series ended after some 150 episodes, Jones successfully ran for Congress and represented Georgia (the fictional location of the show’s Hazzard County) as a Democrat for two terms. Redistricting then killed his political career and he returned to acting and writing before opening a chain of Cooter’s Place museums celebrating the TV show.
I recently ran into Ben Jones at one of those museum attractions just outside of Luray, Virginia. He was singing with a country music band. Cooter’s Place offers free concerts on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
