I happened upon the book table in Costco this week and saw two stacks of Hillary Clinton’s latest effort to explain her loss. The books have a cover price of $30.00 but had already been marked down to $16.95 (which is about break even for the store). I understand that Amazon also has them steeply discounted and has deleted one star reviews of the book. The publisher will probably never get back their advance to the author.

“What Happened” is essentially that Hillary has found another way to squeeze money out of the public. She’s on her book tour (which is fairly standard). Not so standard, however, are the receptions accompanying the tour which require a donation of $1,500 to attend. For the grand-and- a-half the lucky donor gets a picture with Mrs. Clinton to cherish to the end of time.

Someone has taken the time to count the “reasons” she mentions in the book for her loss. The list is astonishingly long. The Russians, of course, get some of the credit. So does James Comey. She also blames Trump for allegedly pandering to the racism in the White community. (I’ve never figured that charge out since his son-in-law is Jewish and he has a multi-ethnic cabinet). She blames a bias against women. She blames white suburban women. She blames Bernie Sanders, the Democrat Party, and President Obama. I’ve heard she even blames a supposed collection of Internet content writers in remote Macedonia for her loss. The only thing she doesn’t appear to blame is herself.

In the interviews she describes candidate Trump as being creepy and skulking behind her on the stage during the debates. That’s interesting since she walked across the stage to stand in front of his podium as she spoke. I suppose it’s all a matter of perspective.

Aside from a reputed one-million-dollar advance and all those expensive receptions, one has to wonder what her motive was for writing the book. All it does is further fragment the nation she claims to love. Is she getting back at the “deplorables” who didn’t vote for her? She most certainly is damaging the Democrat Party

Hillary also blames the electoral system set up by the Constitution. She prefers the popular vote which she won. She blames WikiLeaks for what she claims were boring leaks inflated by Trump’s minions and the right-wing media. In addition to blaming the right-wing media she blames the mainstream media. She also blames the Democratic National Committee which she said she had to inject money into because its coffers were empty. She claims the Democrat Party was also bankrupt. She also claims that a thousand Russian agents put fake messages on Facebook. (By extension I suppose that would also put blame on Facebook for having poor security, but was that security as bad as security on her own e-mail server?). She blames Vladimir Putin for wanting to take her down and blames Trump for cooperating with him. (But if that’s the case, why did her husband and foundation take money from him and deliver a big chunk of our uranium output to Russia?)

Hillary also blames alleged voter suppression by Republican governors for her defeat. (So why did she win the popular vote in many states in which she bothered to campaign?) She blamed Citizens United, millions of Twitter bots in Trump’s account, Steve Bannon for using Breitbart as a source of fake news, Netflix for posting stories against her, the alt-right media such as Infowars, anti-American forces attacking the economy, bad polling, fake news, collusion between members of Trump’s campaign and the Russians, stupid Americans, low information voters, the prevailing notion that she was going to win, Goosefer, the Russian military, DC Leaks, data from the RNC, a weaponized tech industry, the FBI, the GRU intelligence arm of the Russian military, and (this is priceless) her own HONESTY! She was so honest that only rank sexism could defeat her.

It turns out that on election night she was so tired she decided to sleep rather than watching results which were going against her. That’s why she was late in conceding. By falling asleep she also confirmed that Trump’s description of her as “low energy” was not fake news.

So now you know Hillary’s stated reasons as to why she lost. Since you know, you no longer have to buy the book to find out. If you do want to read it, you can wait a couple of months and buy it used on Abebooks.com for a dollar. The advantage of buying it that way is that Hillary doesn’t get any of your money.
