McAllen’s last town hall meeting (Sept. 20) is already three weeks old, but part of what was loudly said during it is bound to spill over into next year’s municipal election, which includes the election of a mayor and three city commissioners, so it’s still worth reviewing.
The commissioner who scheduled the town-hall meet, where citizens were given the opportunity to express their concerns and opinions, was Richard Cortez (District 1), who won a run-off election last year after the tragic death of Scott Crane in December 2014 while competing in McAllen’s 2nd annual marathon; a race that he had ironically helped create.
