EDINBURG - Sgt. Vicente Ortiz, 68, entered into eternal rest on June 5, 2016, at his residence in Edinburg surrounded by his family. Mr. Ortiz is preceded in death by two sons, Juan Jesus and Jay Jay Ortiz; five siblings; parents, Jose Angel and Inocencia Ortiz; and his beloved grandmother, Felipa Tagle Serna. Sgt. Ortiz was proud to had served his Country in the Vietnam Era. His pride and joy was his family, specially his grandchildren. Vicente had different hobbies like fishing and football; however, he enjoyed very much going gambling with his wife, Janie. Sgt. Ortiz was an active member of Amigos del Valle and was chosen King twice; moreover, he was also involve in community service, church, and various clubs. Vicente is survived by his wife of 45 years, Janie Ortiz; two sons, Vicente (Katherine) Ortiz, Gerardo (Virginia) Ortiz, all of Edinburg; seven grandchildren, Vincent-J, Adrian Alexander, Lauren Leighla, James Jireh, Cortney Rae, Isabella Nissi, Sophia Relaynne; six siblings; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation was held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 6:30 p.m. rosary and 7:30 p.m. prayer service Tuesday, June 7, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel of Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
