Pharr Produce Park

PHARR – Last week (April 13), The Advance published a news story detailing the disaster that has befallen the Pharr Produce Park. That was Part 1 to the story; this is the second part. This story will conclude next week. This week’s installment is mainly comprised of some verbal punches thrown back and forth between former Pharr City Commissioner Aquiles “Jimmy” Garza and current Pharr Mayor Ambrosio “Amos” Hernandez.
The disaster mentioned has to do with money and tax dollars.
This year’s city audit, for example, identified a loss on the Produce Park land of $6.478 million. Meaning, that’s how much less recent appraisals pegged the value of the Park land vs. what the city paid for it back during Fiscal Year 2011/12.
