ALAMO — Rudybel Palacios Contreras, 70, died Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at Life Care Hospital of South Texas in McAllen. Born and raised in Alamo, he was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Edinburg Seventh Day Adventist Church. Rudybel was a life-long educator. He was formerly employed by Hidalgo ISD and retired from PSJA ISD, where he was formerly a school board member. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leonel Contreras and Eva Palacios Contreras; a brother, Romeo Rene Contreras; and a sister, Nelda Contreras. Mr. Contreras is survived by his two children, Araceli (Oscar M.) Cantu of San Juan, Omar Rene (Alexis) Contreras of Easton, Maryland; a grandson, Oscar Martin Cantu, III of San Juan; and two brothers, Leonel Contreras, Jr. of San Juan and Arnoldo Contreras of Alamo. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 2, 2015, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Interment of cremated remains will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military honors will be conducted by Catholic War Veterans of Mission. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of San Juan.
