Sentencing of First National Bank thief lands her 28 months in prison

One down, one still left to go in the twin bank-theft case that has dragged on in federal court (U.S. District Judge Micaela Alvarez) for almost exactly two years now.
Approximately a month ago, June 13, Alvarez sentenced former First National Bank of Edinburg employee Jill Marie Myers to 28 months in prison after she pleaded guilty in January 2017 to falsifying bank records in order to conceal the theft of $1.25 million in bank funds. The 28 months doesn’t look so bad considering that for her crimes, Myers was facing a maximum sentence of 30 years (360 months). Meaning, the bank thief was sentenced to less than 10 percent of the maximum time that had been hanging over her head for the past 18 months, as her sentencing date was postponed approximately 10 times.
