Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol Agents Rescue, Resuscitate Infant

ROMA, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents rescue and resuscitate an unresponsive infant after nearly drowning in the Rio Grande.

On Wednesday, the Rio Grande City, Texas, Border Patrol Station (RGC) riverine unit rescued a six month old male Salvadoran national from drowning in the Rio Grande near Roma, Texas. Agents became aware of the dire situation when they heard screams coming the rapidly deflating raft as it attempted to cross the river. Accompanied by his mother, the infant went underwater before being extracted by the RGC agents. The agents then noticed the child was no longer breathing and began performing first aid until the baby was able to breath on his own. The infant and his mother were then transported to the Mission Regional Hospital in Mission, Texas, for treatment and evaluation.
