Pharr will move ahead with drainage projects, says mayor, commissioner

PHARR -- Despite voting unanimously last Monday (Aug. 19) to not hold a bond election this November so voters could decide on whether or not they wanted to move ahead with paying for future drainage projects, the city will still move ahead with plans to improve the city’s drainage flow when heavy rains fall, according to Pharr Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez and Pharr City Commissioner Eleazar Guajardo.

When asked why he voted against the bond, which had been placed on the agenda by city staff, Hernandez said:

“I would say that we weren’t prepared to do an election as of yet because we’ve not gathered enough data from the public to understand their needs throughout the entire city.”
