PHARR’S LONGTIME FIRE CHIEF PLANS ON SOON RETIRING

PHARR -- For most people around these parts, Pharr Fire Chief Jaime Guzman has been like a permanent fixture which makes sense since he’s been chief for the past 25 years. But that’s about to come to an end. “Either after September 30 or after January 1, I plan on retiring,” he said by phone this week. He’s been out on leave for the past several days, thanks to a bad back.
