Mission Mayor categorically denies drunk-driving rumor
MISSION -- In any heated election, ugly rumors are bound to surface. Social media has even made the situation far more worse than in days gone by. In Mission, as most people who pay attention to local news already know, there is a June 9th runoff election between longtime Mission Mayor Norberto “Beto” Salinas and City Councilman Armando O’Caña. Salinas barely missed the runoff by only garnering 49.96 percent of the total votes cast in the three-man race, less than a half-point shy of the needed 50 percent plus 1 to claim victory.
Election day was May 5th. It wasn’t long after that that The Advance got a call from an anonymous Mission resident claiming that Salinas was involved in an early morning one-vehicle traffic crash that took out a telephone pole on Glasscock Road in the early morning hours of May 5th. The accident was alcohol-related, claimed the caller, but the police were burying it because the mayor was behind the wheel of the Ford F-150 when the crash occurred.
