Hidalgo County’s truck/trailer purchase under investigation

published several stories in 2017 about Hidalgo County’s purchase of 12 used trucks and vacuum trailers for a total of $1.44 million. There were indeed several things that appeared odd about the purchase once the county responded to our public information request, but it wasn’t until recently that a confidential source informed us that the purchase was now under investigation by state criminal investigators.

Reached by phone Monday, Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez said all he would say is that, “We’re looking into it, and we hope we can get to the truth.”

It’s not clear exactly which state agency is overseeing the investigation.
