Juan Guerra

Guerra headed to DHR

Former Pharr City Manager Juan Guerra only quit his Pharr job last fall and assumed his new role of Edinburg city manager, and already he’s leaving? Why?

According to Edinburg Mayor Richard Molina, it’s an amicable departure. As he says, Doctors Hospital at Renaissance (DHR) simply made Guerra an offer he couldn’t refuse.

“I wish him all the best,” said Molina, “as does the city council.”

The only thing not yet decided, according to the mayor, is when Guerra’s departure from Edinburg will ultimately arrive.

“We don’t yet have an exit day. We have an All-America City event that I’d like to see everyone focused on. Edinburg is a finalist, so it’s important that everyone is on the same page.”

Molina says he knows Guerra’s departure from Edinburg is relatively soon after his arrival, but let there be no mistake, he said, it’s not because either party has a problem with the other.

“That’s the way some people are always going to make it out to be,” he said. “When actually, Mr. Guerra will be missed; but I sure can’t blame him for accepting DHR’s offer.”

Asked when the city will start looking for a new city manager, the mayor said, “It all depends when he leaves. We’re still in discussions about that.”
