Feds postpone former Pharr city commissioner’s sentencing

McALLEN – The federal docket report for former Pharr City Commissioner Oscar Elizondo, Jr., recorded Feb. 26, 2018, allows him a little more breathing room for the time being. His sentencing scheduled for March 1 has been moved to May 8, as has that of his convicted accomplice, the former owner of Penitas Family Pharmacy, Omar Espericueta.
Last November, Elizondo entered into a plea agreement with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas, which included pleading guilty to one count of conspiring to defraud Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. Not a bad deal, one could argue, considering that the original federal indictment staring down Elizondo included 16 counts.
