Edinburg mayor points finger at his nemesis: Mary Alice Palacios
By Gregg Romero Wendorf
The ongoing investigation into alleged voter fraud in Edinburg’s municipal election last November continues to heat up the news. Last week, a fifth person was arrested and charged with two counts of illegal voting in last November’s Edinburg municipal election. Investigators with the Texas AG’s Office and Texas Rangers arrested Francisco Tamez, Jr. Friday afternoon. Unlike three of the four people previously arrested, Tamez, Jr. isn’t charged with lying about his living quarters, per se. Rather, according to his probable cause affidavit, Tamez was convicted of felony burglary in Oklahoma and has yet to fulfill the terms of his parole, which doesn’t end until 2020, thereby making him ineligible to vote in a Texas election.
Last Tuesday, Edinburg Mayor Richard Molina released a video to news outlets, laying out his arguments about why he believes he is the target of an investigation that includes the office of the Hidalgo County District Attorney, the Texas AG’s Office, and the Texas Rangers. Spokespersons for each agency have admitted publicly that an investigation into voter fraud is underway in Edinburg, but no one has singled out Molina as the target of the investigation. It seems clear from his video, however, that even if he isn’t
the intended target, Molina believes the investigation into voter fraud is one-sided because so far, only his supporters have been arrested.
According to Molina and the public records he says are in his possession, this should turn into a case of people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones because he has enough evidence, according to him, to show that some of his more vocal political opponents should be investigated for voter fraud as well.
