DA won’t say if there is a grand jury investigating the mayor

Will his aunt present a problem?

EDINBURG – How this investigation is going to end in Edinburg with regard to allegations of voter fraud is going to prove very interesting. The main person alleging voter fraud and who filed a complaint with the Secretary of State earlier this year to that effect, former JP Mary Alice Palacios, is, after all, the aunt of Hidalgo County District Attorney Ricardo Rodriguez. That might not be so complicated in and of itself if not for the fact that his office is a part of this voter-fraud investigation, which has so far resulted in the arrest of five people.
In fact, Palacios has said publicly that she believes voter fraud helped the city’s current mayor, Richard Molina, beat his opponent, Richard Garcia, in last November’s election.
Rodriguez’s office isn’t the only agency investigating the allegations of voter fraud. The Texas AG’s office is also a part of the investigation, as are the Texas Rangers. So call it a trifecta, if you will.
According to several sources, a county grand jury is already looking into whether or not large-scale voter fraud has been committed, with Molina as its main focus, but earlier this week, Rodriguez would not confirm or deny it. He did, however, agree to an interview Monday.
So, the first question is, is there a grand jury right now looking into allegations of voter fraud against Edinburg Mayor Richard Molina?
DA Ricardo Rodriguez: “I have no comment on that.”
