City of Pharr stops funding Boys & Girls Club for time being

PHARR -- This high-octane story first popped up on the radar last year when word started spreading through town that the city had stopped funding the Pharr Boys & Girls Club. On the surface, it looked bad for the city’s elected officials. People, some anyway, called this newspaper to ask: “How could the city do such a thing? These are kids we’re talking about. Why is the city using the Boys & Girls Club as a political weapon?”
Pharr’s mayor is “Amos” Hernandez. The Club Board President is Eduardo “Eddie” Cantu who also serves as Hidalgo County Precinct 2 commissioner. In the past, both
