Alamo’s politics collide with the PD
ALAMO – This story is almost reminiscent of the mid- to late-1990s when Alamo had two police chiefs at the same time, and the lawsuits that went with such a scenario. Like the famous Yankee catcher Yogi Berra once said: “This is Déjà vu all over again.”
Back then, the problem with the PD developed due to a squabble on the city commission. This time, it seems no different. Last month, Alamo Police Chief Baudelio Castillo requested a line-item budget change: move $27,000 from maintenance to training.
Until then, the city commission was pretty much split 3-2, with longtime Alamo politico Trino Medina enjoying the majority against the incumbent mayor, Diana Martinez, against whom he will presumably run against come November. That vote, however, didn’t go Medina’s way. Commissioner Robert De La Garza, on whom he counted as a political ally, sided with the mayor and her ally, Commissioner Maria Del Pilar Garza, and the chief’s request was denied 3-2.
