Advance News submits open-records request for Pharr Boys & Girls Club correspondence
PHARR – After the publication of last week’s story that begged the question – why is the Pharr Boys & Girls Club south-side gym still closed to kids? – this newspaper received an email from a local citizen taking us to task for the story, calling it misleading because we had allowed alleged misleading facts from a city staff member to be entered into the record.
There are three sides to this story: the city’s (Pharr Mayor “Amos” Hernandez); the Pharr Boys & Girls Club (Board President “Eddie” Cantu); and IDEA Public Schools (CEO Tom Torkelson). The only one who has agreed to an interview has been Hernandez and Pharr Deputy City Manager Ed Wylie. Meaning, only one of the three sides to this story has been told; but it hasn’t been for lack of trying on the part of this newspaper.
