I was 15 when I watched Pete Rose, AKA Charlie Hustle, collide with Catcher Ray Fosse at home plate to score the winning run in the 1970 All-Star Game. You could almost feel the collision come through the TV screen. That hit knocked the ball free from Fosse’s glove and won the game for the National League. Today, at 74, Rose, Major League Baseball’s all-time leader in hits (4,256), still isn’t in the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, and for a lot of baseball fans, including me, that just ain’t right.
