We are now in a period constituting the medical-insurance window. Those with Medicare Advantage coverage (like myself) or with Obamacare (if they have any choice in their area) are receiving promotional letters in the mail trying to convince them to change insurance companies.
A few weeks ago I got what I thought was such a letter in the mail from Humana (which had been my insurer until the beginning of this year). When I opened it, however, I found it was a statement of expenses from a year and a half ago. The columns of numbers, as usual, made little sense, indicating that the insurance company had only paid a small fraction of the amount my hospital had tried to charge them, and concluded by stating I owed a $75 co-pay.
