Losing Coverage?

When the Affordable Care Act was being written, I was Executive Director of the Texas Republican County Chairmen’s Association. In that capacity I visited House and Senate offices on Capitol Hill to voice concerns about the pending bill. I remember speaking with the chief of staff of one of the Democrats that were hammering it together. I also remember that I was getting nowhere in my criticisms of the legislation until I mentioned the unconstitutional effect it would have on Christian organizations that had cooperative arrangements to pay one anthers’ medical bills in time of need. When I said that he became instantly interested and let me know they were unaware that such organizations existed. He assured me that he’d make sure there was a carve out in the bill to allow those Christian cooperatives to continue providing “insurance” unimpeded. He was as good as his word, and the provision became a part of the Affordable Care Act.
