SSG JONATHAN SILVA
EDINBURG – SSG Jonathan Silva, 35, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 in Joint Base Lewis McChord, WA.
Raised in Edinburg, Jonathan was a graduate of Edinburg North High School, class of 2000. He played football and participated in track and field. Jonathan served in the United States Army for 11 years and 4 months and was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He graduated from the United States Army Airborne School, earning the coveted Parachutist Badge. He was awarded the Combat Badge, seven Commendation Medals and six Army Achievement Medals. Jonathan deployed four times to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.
Jonathan is survived by his wife, Jennifer Silva; two sons, Lucas and Matteo Silva; his parents, Miguel and Ana Silva; and three siblings, Miguel A. Silva, Nancy Gomez, and David Silva.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service Monday, November 27, 2017, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 East Canton in Edinburg. Interment will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Army Color Guard of San Antonio.
