SJ PD and PSJA outshine Florida school authorities

When it comes time to investigate and identify potential school-shooting threats, the San Juan PD and PSJA ISD recently succeeded whereas Florida authorities in Broward County, both law enforcement and school officials, dropped the ball, which led to the horrific school shootings that claimed 17 lives Feb. 14.
Late last month, San Juan police arrested PSJA student Jose Castro-Lopez, 17, and charged him with making a terroristic threat on the morning of Feb. 22 after he typed a malevolent post on Facebook, claiming that he was going to “do something that will take many times.” Don’t know if “times” was a typo and should have been “lives.” Castro-Lopez also warned readers that they shouldn’t be surprised “…next week when I shoot it up.”
The San Juan PD started receiving calls from concerned parents and students shortly after the Facebook post went online and quickly launched an investigation, according to San Juan Police Chief Juan Gonzalez. Castro was arrested that same evening. The following day he was arraigned and handed a bond in the amount of $250,000. As of Tuesday, March 6, the PSJA student is still behind bars, according to Gonzalez.
Asked if he thought Castro’s Facebook post was a hoax or a legitimate threat, Gonzalez said, “The intent to create panic was there.”
