Number-one world ranking for journalists murdered

It’s not a distinction of which any country wants to boast, but according to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), Mexico is now ranked number one in the world when it comes to killing journalists. Last year, approximately 10 were killed down Mexico way. Iraq and Syria ranked second and third, respectively.
The CPJ is also investigating 20 more killings last year possibly related to journalists’ work, but so far, no connections have been made (Source: NPR.org).
Another organization that follows the well-being of journalists/news reporters, the Paris-based Reporters Without Borders, pegs the number of journalists slain in Mexico last year at 11. Local Mexican
