VELVA LOPEZ
SAN JUAN - Velva Lopez, 83, went home to our Lord Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at Amara Hospice in Edinburg.
Mrs. Lopez was born in San Juan and had lived there all of her life. Velva believed in love and the unity of a family. She was the first to remind us to forgive what can be forgiven and never hold a grudge. Her lessons on love, family, and living will forever be remembered and will be passed on through generations.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerardo B. Lopez; parents, Juan and Teodora Cantu; a brother, Eugenio Cantu; two sisters, Rebecca Alcazar and Maria C. Trevino.
Velva is survived by her five children, Blanca Estella Lopez, Bertha (Arturo, Jr.) Cavazos, Corina (Albert, Jr.) Alaniz, Dalina “Dollie” (Daniel) Cavazos, all of San Juan, Elizabeth “Betty” Aguirre of Weslaco; a daughter by heart, Mary Melgarejo; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Esperanza C. Quintanilla of San Juan.
Visitation was held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Friday, Dec. 15, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service took place at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.
Funeral services were under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
