County Commissioners Court chooses its own architect

By a 4-1 split Tuesday (Aug. 15), the Hidalgo County Commissioners Court decided to ignore the advice of the company it had hired to provide program management services that will oversee the design and construction of the new multi-million-dollar county courthouse and instead opt for the runner-up when it came to deciding who would be the job’s architect.
“Why are we paying the project management company $4.5 million if we’re not going to listen to their advice?” County Judge Ramon Garcia, the lone duck, asked during this week’s special meeting, which had been called with the express intent on how to break last week’s impasse.
