I found it very interesting when former FBI Director James Comey testified under oath last week that he had leaked his memos to a professor at Columbia University for transmittal to the Times because President Trump had tweeted that he (Comey) had better hope there were no recordings of their conversations. James Comey’s motivation for leaking, in other words, was to respond to an implied threat. The problem with his testimony, however, is that the New York Times printed Comey’s leak the day before the president tweeted about there being a possible recording.
