The Trump Tower Tap Dance

By Tom Haughey

“WIRETAPPED DATA USED IN INQUIRY OF TRUMP AIDS” was the New York Times page one headline on Inauguration Day, January 20th. The reporter who wrote the piece along with three colleagues was Michael S. Schmidt. Fast forward a month or so and this same reporter wrote another story berating President Trump for accusing the Obama Administration without proof of wiretapping Trump Tower before the election. In the first article Mr. Schmidt stated that the results of the investigation by the FBI, CIA, NSA, and the Treasury investigative unit had been reported to the White House but that no evidence was found of any collusion between these aids and the Russians. Could it be that Donald Trump reads the New York Times and that Schmidt’s article was at least part of the basis for Trump’s charge? Perhaps not. After all, President Trump has accused the New York Times as being “fake news”. If he had a mental lapse and actually believed their headline, he must have realized his mistake when he read Schmidt’s second article.
