If you want to see what two months in the county jail does to a person, all you had to do was take a gander Monday afternoon as Monica Melissa (Palacios) Patterson, age 50, was led out of the 370th state District Court in handcuffs and leg shackles on her way back to the county lockup to await her fate. Will Judge Noe Gonzalez grant the motion for a new trial, or will he deny it, after which her defense team will send her appeal to the 13th Court. If this motion heard Monday fails, Patterson will be bussed within the next 30 days to one of Texas’s hard-core state prisons for life without parole unless the 13th overturns the verdict and sends it back to Hidalgo County
