Are these McAllen “rich people” just a bunch of snobs? Or is there really an argument to be made – building apartment complexes next to single-family residences isn’t a good idea? The heated Auburn Village public-housing debate is on hold for now until the McAllen Housing Authority learns if the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs is going to give it the financial help it needs to develop the property. McAllen is one of a number of cities vying for the state’s financial help (in the form of tax credits), so there’s no guarantee the 160-unit apartment complex will ever get built.
