Mind if I join the party, asks Senator Cruz

Texas Senator Ted Cruz was present at Monday’s regular McAllen city commission meeting in spirit and he will be in McAllen soon in the flesh. Cruz’s appearance at the city’s annual 4th of July parade added a little spice to an agenda otherwise filled with the mundane concerns of local government.

It wasn’t long after the announcement that Texas’ junior senator would appear in the parade that criticism of Cruz’s presence drew criticism in posts across social media. However much criticism there was, Mayor Jim Darling felt moved to issue a statement from city hall that “The City of McAllen will always welcome our federal and state elected officials to our city, because by doing so, we can help them understand the needs in our community.”
