Knell’s self-confessed murderer: 50-year plea offer good for a week

Angel Mario Garza has an important decision to make before time runs out next Monday: Plead guilty to the Jan. 28, 2015 cold-blooded capital murder of 96-year-old WWII vet “Marty” Knell (death by asphyxiation) and receive a 50-year prison sentence, or risk a trial by jury?

What is there to say but thanks when a city names you its Citizen of the Year at its State of the City Address? It’s an honor for which I will be forever grateful. I’m tempted to make some jokes because I love self-deprecating humor, such as -- Thankfully I got bailed out of jail just in time to make it to this year’s State of the City Address – but doing so would just detract from what I consider to be a big deal. Plus, before you know it, some anonymous social media poster would be posting: “Wendorf recently bailed out of jail.”
