Feds bust former sheriff’s candidate; accuse him of drug trafficking

There’s no denying that former La Joya Police Chief and former candidate for Hidalgo County Sheriff, Geovani Hernandez has lived an interesting life. Question is, for all intents and purposes, has it now come to an end? At least as he knows it.
Hernandez was taken into federal custody approximately two weeks ago and charged with drug trafficking and other assorted felonies. Based on the criminal complaint dated July 15, it appeared pretty obvious that the feds had taped conversations of Hernandez allegedly promising to help facilitate drug shipments. The question of Hernandez’s voice on recordings discussing drug shipments was later laid to rest during his bond hearing less than a week ago.
