Eight ECISD teachers take summer jobs to prepare students for careers
EDINBURG – Eight teachers from the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District are preparing to educate their students during the fall semester about the career skills they learned while taking on summer jobs.
The teachers participated in the Academic Leadership Alliance (ALA) Summer Educator Externship program and worked for several local businesses, including banks, museums, colleges, hospitals and restaurants.
By partnering local businesses and educational leaders, the ALA program aims to implement innovative ways to connect businesses and education. The program also hopes to create connections that help students prepare for success in college and careers.
This year, 73 educators from eight school districts joined the ALA program to identify skill sets employers seek, to integrate what they learned into their lesson plans, and to share them with their students in the fall.
