County Appraiser still waiting for Pharr’s tax-exempt application

PHARR – Property taxes. Ugh. No one likes them except for the taxing entities they help fund. However, what if your annual property tax (ad valorem) bill were in the neighborhood of $1 million?
Is that the sound of you fainting as you drop to the floor?
Last month, Hidalgo County Chief Appraiser Rolando Garza mentioned in a story published in The Advance that some large apartment complexes (50+ units and up) were especially hard hit this year, in the 10-to-20-percent range with regard to property valuation increases, with the owners of some of the larger ones shocked to see that their property appraisals had jumped 200 percent.
