BUSTED: Charged with DWI

Last weekend was deemed “No Refusal Weekend” by local and state law enforcement working in conjunction with the Hidalgo County DA’s Office to crack down on drunk drivers or at least drivers suspected of drunk driving. That’s the plan, Stan. No refusal means if a driver is stopped on suspicion of drunk driving, he or she may indeed refuse a field sobriety test, or refuse to blow (breathalyzer test), but they can’t refuse to have their blood drawn to check blood/alcohol content. Hence the term, “No Refusal Weekend,” which actually began last Thursday.
That scenario only works, however, if there is a judge on hand to sign a warrant mandating the blood draw. Hence, the term: “No Refusal.”
